Level Design Process
Rough Layout
I started my process by gathering references for the setting and idea of the game. The game is set in a New York inspired city. The central plot surrounds a main character who is struggling to make rent and becomes a magical girl to make extra money. I created a moodboard to guide a rough first draft of a street level. I also kept concept art already created by one the artists I was working with in mind.
Using the moodboard, I created a rough layout, planning out the general structure and gameplay elements we had planned at the time. I made sure to leave room for world building details the environment artists could utilize.
Prototype Layout
After the game was past the pre-production stage, I applied feedback from the art and design departments to create the polished level 1 layout.

Final Level 1 Layout
This is how the final level design turned with final art which was not created by me but an artist who worked off my layout design.

Final Art is not mine
